ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - A long-suffering commuter fulfilled the
dreams of generations of Washingtonians on Tuesday morning when he blew up a
detested Potomac River bridge. Maryland electrician Dan Ruefly won a contest to
detonate a section of the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge, which carries the
Capital Beltway across the Potomac between Maryland and Virginia just south of
the District of Columbia...

Seconds after Ruefly pushed down the ceremonial plunger at 12:34 a.m.,
a cascade of flashes lit the underside of the bridge and thunderclaps rolled
across the river. The steel girders of the old span
collapsed in a cloud of dust as spectators on a nearby overpass cheered. [Full

This is really cool, but ya know what would make this even cooler? If they did a contest type thing like this for every single demolition project, and charge people an entry fee. Of course, all that money would go towards the public good, but think about it, how awesome would it be to blow up a building? You'd get tons of entries, that would add up in a lot of income really quickly...

RIVERTON, Utah (AP)- An air vent cover on the side of a house looks like it
might be an obscene hand gesture. Then again, it might be an abstract cactus.

I found thisparticularlyy hilarious, and a great insight into human nature. First of all, I'm on Darren Wood's side, because this is America, and if you're going to live here, you better damn well know what you can and cannot do. If you own property, and you're within local regulations, you can do whatever you want on it, especially because in this instance it's not a violation of any easement regulations. You DO NOT own any right to views from your property, and this structure clearly is NOT blocking light onto Torgersen's property.

Secondly, the vent is far from obscene, if you were driving past it without looking twice, you wouldn't even notice it could be a hand gesture. Whether or not Wood planned this or not, it's hilarious the situation is what it is... best of luck to Wood!
